St Albans March Agenda

I’m super excited to be bringing you The Alban Way’s first monthly agenda, jam-packed with fun-filled events to help you spring into March. There’s new openings, exhibitions, and acoustic nights. Whether you want to delve into a beer or fancy a glass of champagne, we’ve got you covered. There’s a special post for things to do in St. Albans for Mother’s Day too.

11th – Herts Big Weekend
You have until the 11th March to enter the ballot for a FREE day out over Herts Big Weekend, which takes place on the 24th-25th March.

New Openings

2nd March | The Abbey Restaurant | George Street
The Abbey will be open from breakfast to dinner, 7 days a week, serving simple, seasonal and sustainable cuisine. From a bespoke à la carte menu feature fresh farm-to-table produce, to indulgent seasonal cocktails, I’m looking forward to visiting next month.

17th March | Darlish | French Row
UK’S first Persian ice cream parlour is coming to St. Alban’s this March. They’ll be serving the magical classic saffron pistachio and rose (‘bastani sonnati’ – the traditional Persian ice cream), orange blossom and pistachio, and many many other exciting flavours.

What’s On

1st March – Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour | Alban Arena
Experience an evening of extraordinary short films from the world’s most prestigious mountain film festival. An exciting event not to be missed with free prize giveaways!

2nd March – Art and South African Wine | Marks & Tilt | London Road
Cellar Door Wines have teamed up with local art gallery, Marks & Tilt to combine wine and art. This is a last opportunity to view the works of Sophie Tea from her Animal and Game Girl series.

6th March – Update your own furniture workshop | Cositas | Holywell Hill
This is the first of many fabulous workshops this month at Cositas. Whether you fancy learning calligraphy, knitting or screen printing, there’s something for everyone to try.

7th March | Ghosts and Ghouls Tour | Outside the Old Town Hall
Explore and discover the hidden, ghostly haunted side of St Albans, including well known phantoms of the town. £5 per person.

7th March | Street Party Session | Beech House
Ever thought of holding a street party but don’t know where to start? Then head to the Beech House at 8-9pm to get some handy tips.

9th March – Rioja Masterclass with Spanish wine expert
With over 30 years experience, Paul Shinnie is the perfect person to talk you through six wines from around Rioja. Light (Spanish) snacks included. £12.50 per person.

10th-17th March – Young People’s Photographic Competition Exhibition | St. Alban’s Cathedral
For the fifth year in a row, St Albans Camera Club will host its student photographic competition, open to photography students studying at local schools and colleges.

11th March – Final Planting Session | Heartwood Forest
From 10am-3pm, simply grab a spade and plant a tree in Heartwood Forest. Trees will be provided and you’ll be shown how to plant them, just make sure to wrap up warm.

11th March – Farmer’s Market | St. Peters Street
From 8am to 2pm, there will be local specialities, mouth-watering cheeses, seasonal fruit and vegetables, meat & game, cakes & bread and much more.

11th March – St. Albans South Signal Box
From 2-5pm, Come and enjoy a great day out at this historic signal box in St Albans. A free-entry attraction for kids, families and railway enthusiasts of all ages.

11th-12th March – Lambing weekend | Oaklands College
Meet the brand new lambs on the College Farm. There will also be donkey rides, an on-site Farmers Market, as well as a family photo booth to make it a Mother’s Day to remember.

14th March – Tots Tales | Verulamium Museum | St Michael’s Street
Inspired by Nick Butterworth’s The Treasure Hunt, these hour long sessions will be filled with a story, craft activity and a museum hunt. £3.00 per person, plus museum entry charge to all non-residents.

15th March – Beer Night | Beer Shop | London Road
Whether you are a beer novice or geek, delve deep into the underbelly (beerbelly) of the nation’s favourite alcoholic beverage. The email may give you the opportunity to try a style you haven’t had before. £34 per person. (Only a few spaces left)

17th March – Happy Teen Wellbeing Weekend | Nicolas Breakspear School | Colney Heath Lane
Professionals in youth wellbeing will be coming together for one day to help you and your teenager navigate those tricky teen years.

18th March – Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings | Hatfield Road
The Regional Youthboard for Herts & Essex NCS are running a sausage sizzle at Hatfield Road Bunnings St Albans on 18th March. They need cakes and Sainsbury’s butcher choice sausages for the day. Please DM or email if you want to donate.

18th March – Landscape History Walk | Heartwood Forest
Take part in a 1.5mile walk, taking in the ‘top 10’ events in geological and human history which have shaped the landscape. Advanced booking required.

21st March – Drappier Champagne Tasting | Thompson | Hatfield Road
A true evening of indulgence. Phil Thompson will be serving a luxurious 4 course Tasting Menu, preceded by a choice of canapés and accompanied throughout by the finest champagnes the House of Drappier has to offer. £110 per person.

21st March – Food & Wine pairing evening
Join Angus Bennett from Inverarity Morton who will introduce the wines and talk you through the art of matching food and wine. £49.95 per person for a four course meal with wine pairing.

24th-25th March – Herts Big Weekend
You have until the 11th March to enter the ballot for a FREE day out over Herts Big Weekend. There’s also lots of free activities taking place, so it’s definitely worth a look.

24th-25th March – Tower Tour  | St Albans Cathedral
Escorted by a cathedral guide you will be led up the great Norman Tower which is the only English 11th century central Cathedral tower still in its original form. £9.50 per person (Minimum age 11).

30th March | There’s more to the Tudors than Henry VIII  Walk| Outside the Old Town Hall
From Henry VII to Elizabeth I, how did the dissolution of our powerful monastery impact on the people of St Albans and its economy?

31st March | Fishpool Street: Rags to Riches | Start from Verulamium Museum
Journey from St Michaels, taking in medieval pubs and the 16th century watermill they we know as The Waffle House. A fantastic opportunity to look at the architecture of some of the 72 listed buildings.

30-31st March – Peppa Pig’s Adventure | Alban Arena
Join Peppa Pig and friends as they go on an exciting camping trip to the woods.

1st-3rd March | Frankenstein | Abbey Theatre
n this fabulously atmospheric Gothic horror, Frankenstein, a young student, discovers the secret of creating life from the remains of the dead.

1st March – Acoustic night | The Crown | Hatfield Road
Head to The Crown on the first Thursday of every month for the best in local acoustic talent. Go on, get those feet tapping!

2nd March – Folk at the Maltings| The Maltings Art Theatre
Folk at The Maltings presents Hertfordshire-based Daria Kulesh, a rising star and unique character on the UK folk scene. Ben Moss and Bow by Bow also join the line-up for a Folk filled evening. Tickets £12.

8th – 10th March | Wizard of Oz | Alban Arena
Rare Productions Youth Theatre Group brings the classic tale of Wizard of Oz to St Albans.

10th March | Len Rawle M.B.E. | St Albans Organ Theatre
Friend of St Albans Organ Theatre, Len returns to play this March. Tickets £12.50.

13th March | Rumours of Fleetwood Mac | Alban Arena
The world’s finest tribute returns with a brand new show celebrating 40 years of the iconic Rumours album.
