New Openings

9th May – The Ivy Brasserie | 1-3 Verulam Road
One of the most anticipated openings, The Ivy Brasserie is opening this month. The restaurant will be open seven days a week, serving an extensive all-day dining menu and offering a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere, with a number of tables always held for walk-ins so that locals may drop in at their leisure.

1st May – Tickets for the 2018 St Albans Film Festival go on sale!
The festival will run from 26th June – 1st July, make sure you’re a part of it by buying a ticket at 9am on Tuesday 1st May.

18th May – Taste the Highlife | Christopher Place
St Albans BID are hosting a fabulous event from 7-10pm at Christopher Place. There will be shopping, music from Swanvesta Social Club, discounts and prizes at the shops and a fashion show from Hobbs too. There will be four cocktail bars hosted by Tomoka featuring international cocktails (think Caipirinhas and Mojitos) and the whole event is free!

2nd May – Alban Way Guided Tour | Starting at Hatfield Station
Join all or part of a 7 mile guided walk along the Alban Way from Hatfield to St Albans. Starting at 9am from Hatfield Station and arriving at London Road at approx. 4.15pm, learn about the history of the Branch line.

5th May – Walking Tour: A Roman City revealed
Discover the past of Roman Britain’s third city. See the hypocaust and visit the unique Roman Theatre where Roman acting was very much part of the activities. Starts at 2.30pm from the front of the Old Town Hall in St Peter’s Street.

5th May – Tower Tour  | St Albans Cathedral
Escorted by a cathedral guide you will be led up the great Norman Tower which is the only English 11th century central Cathedral tower still in its original form. £9.50 per person (Minimum age 11). Read the review from my recent visit.

5th May – Pretty in Paint Workshop | Cositas
Transform your own beautiful bedside table or small piece of vintage furniture using a variety of chalk paint techniques. With a maximum of 4 participants in each class, you’ll be able to ask questions, try things out and finish up being very proud of your creation. £155 per person.

5th-6th May – Golf Sixes | Centurion Club

8th May – Crochet Granny Square Workshop | Cositas
Learn to crochet a beautiful multi-coloured granny square.  It’s the perfect building block for countless crochet projects.  The class is suitable for beginners or those with a little experience keen to brush up their rusty crochet techniques. £50 per person.

10th May – Royal Tokaji Tasting | Cellar Wines
Tokaji is the world’s original sweet white wine. Master of Wine Chris Donaldson will be there to tell you all about five wines from this historical region. £20 per person.

12th May – Walking Tour: Fishpool Street: Rags to Riches
Journey from St Michaels, taking in medieval pubs and the 16th century watermill they we know as The Waffle House. A fantastic opportunity to look at the architecture of some of the 72 listed buildings. Tour starts from Verulamium Museum.

13th May –  Walking Tours
On Sunday there are two tours taking place – Historic St Albans (11am) and Coaching Inns (2.30pm).  Tours start from the front of the Old Town Hall in St Peter’s Street.

13th May – Farmer’s Market | St. Peters Street
From 8am to 2pm, there will be local specialities, mouth-watering cheeses, seasonal fruit and vegetables, meat & game, cakes & bread and much more.

13th May – Sunday Opening at the Organ Theatre
Organ Theatre will open to the public from 2.15 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. during which time there is a live, continuous musical performance of the various instruments, given with an informal, descriptive commentary. The afternoon includes a 10 minute interval for refreshments at 3.25 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m.

13th May – Europe Day Picnic | Verulamium Park
Join the community picnic  in Verulamium Park in between the Inn on the Park cafe and the lake – look out for flags. Bring a picnic – maybe your favourite from another European country (or your own)? There will be games and activities for children.

13th May – St. Albans South Signal Box
From 2-5pm, Come and enjoy a great day out at this historic signal box in St Albans. A free-entry attraction for kids, families and railway enthusiasts of all ages.

14th May – Laughing Bull Comedy Night | The Bull
Head to The Bull for Comedy Evening with five wonderful cow-medians. Show starts at 8pm, £5 tickets on the door.

17th May – Fragrance Making Workshop | Cositas
Join in on a fun, informative and sensory perfume journey, which will stimulate your nose and mind. .  Imagine the joy of someone complimenting on your fragrance and asking what brand you are wearing.  £80 per person.

17th May – Loves Me, Loves Me Not Brush Party | The Crown

Winery representative Leanne Amphlett will be talking us through six Sileni Estates Wines. Cheese and charcuterie included in ticket. £12.50 per person.

12th May – Michael Jackson HIStory Show | Alban Arena
Spectacular music tribute and full-scale stage production honouring the one and only King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Show starts at 7.30pm, tickets £23 plus booking fee.

24th May – Jools Holland |Alban Arena

26th May – DanceMania | Abbey Theatre
FK Dance Academy presents DanceMania – including street dance, contemporary, musical theatre, ballet and tap. This show promises to be an exciting evening featuring the talented pupils from the school. Show starts at 7.30pm.

26th May – 3rd June – Spring Special at Willows Farm
The Spring Special programme will include live sheep shearing demonstrations – seeing our woolly friends getting their hair cut for the warmer weather. You can also enjoy new shows in the Peter Rabbit Theatre, Sheep Racing around the animal race track and all your Willows Favourites including Tristan the Runaway Tractor.

27th May – Cinders and the 7 Step Sisters | Abbey Theatre
Community group So-Theatre presents a fun panto for the whole family. The cast, comprising children and adults, are raising money for charity. Show starts at 6pm.

28th May – Doctor Dolittle | Sandpit Theatre
Come and see Doctor Dolittle light up the stage in this magical musical adventure. This is a brand new show with original music, lots of audience participation and amazing puppets. Tickets £8 or family tickets available for £28.

31st May – Bobby Davro & Alison Thea-Skot | Abbey Theatre
This evenings bill includes stand-up from the legendary Bobby Davro  and character comedy from Alison Thea-Skot. Tickets £13.
