Smallford Farm Shop

I grew up near Smallford and during my school years I’d get the bus to St Albans, passing Glinfell Nursery and wondered what took place beyond the gates. So I was particularly intrigued when they converted one of their greenhouses into Smallford Farm Shop. It’s located on the site of the family-owned fresh produce nursery but you can now buy fresh home-grown produce, condiments, oils, a cheese counter serving a range of British cheeses, deli counter with a selection of artisan cured meats, fresh cakes and bread, smoked fish and confectionery.

There’s also a café that is open for breakfast from 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 4pm on a Sunday. You can pop in for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or just for a cup of coffee of tea. In my case I relaxed with a hot chocolate and copy of Hertfordshire Life.

They also have a great array of cakes, scones, muffins and the most delicious cookies. I ordered one to take away!

The shop opens its doors at 9am Monday to Saturday and 10am on Sunday. As well as home-grown produce they also a great selection of other products. From oils to teas, to bread and chutneys. They also had a variety of alcohol including local beer, 3 Brewers and bottles of spirits and wine.

The meat available to purchase is from Hedges Farm, located just 4 miles from Smallford Farm Shop.

Smallford Farm Shop also sells perfect gifts from The Bottled Baking Company to treats from Easter. Make sure to keep an eye out on their website for an upcoming competition to win a large chocolate Easter egg too.

For all the local St Albans Mums, one of the great things about Smallford Farm Shop is that they have a play area for your little ones. So either whilst you shop or catch-up with friends over lunch, the children will be able to play.

You can find Smallford Farm Shop on Hatfield Road, AL4 0HE. I definitely think they are a great addition to St Albans!
