Meet the Local: Chrissy from The Name Box

It has been a little while since I last did a Meet the Local post, so I'm excited to introduce Chrissy - the name behind local company The Name Box.

In 2016 Chrissy was looking to get a gift for her niece and couldn't find what she wanted, so put her creativity to the test. She ordered a box of wooden letters and placed her first plaque order with her supplier (her Dad) - who still cuts all her plaques.

She looked at the box of letters and thought ‘I wonder what other names I can create from this box?’ and that’s when the name of the business came to Chrissy, ‘The Name Box’.

On a typical day… my alarm clock (my little boy) wakes me up around 7am every morning. Once he’s dressed and having breakfast I grab a cup of tea and check on any Etsy orders that have been placed and do a quick social media update. Throughout the day I juggle keeping my son entertained by popping out to playgroups, swimming or our favourite, taking a walk to Clarence park and then finding time in between to paint. As any mum will know toddlers keep you on the go all day so I do most of my painting in the evenings when he is tucked up in bed.

The one thing I love most about my job is… sharing my creativity with others. I love when a customer contacts me asking for advice on colour schemes for their items. I put a lot of love and effort into each individual order and just love that I get to share my passion with others
The best piece of advice I have received is… GO FOR IT! I have a bad habit that I am slowing breaking out of, self-doubt and finding little reasons not to take the next step and push myself/business. I was told by so many people close to me to ‘go for it’ whenever I spoke about starting up The Name Box and I am so glad that I decided to listen, believe in my creativity and myself! So I want to pass these words on to anyone looking to put their own business out there…GO FOR IT!

My most memorable work memory is… getting my first order on Etsy. Before I opened ‘The Name Box Shop’ I only made my name plaques for friends as baby gifts or birthday presents for their little ones. So when my phone made its first ever Esty ‘caching’ I felts so overwhelmed and proud that this one person had selected my little shop to buy from. Even now, nearly a year and a half after opening, after I still do a little happy dance when someone places an order.
