I genuinely don’t think there is anywhere quite like The Waffle House. It’s been a family business since 1978, specialising in sweet and savoury Belgian waffles. Pretty much anything you desire can be served on a waffle from chilli con carne to banoffee.
The Waffle House is located within a 16th Century watermill and overlooks the River Ver in St Albans. Come rain or shine it is super handy to get to either by foot or car, as there’s parking on site. It’s also on the edge of Verulanium Park so ideal if you fancy a post-visit walk.
It is open from 8.30am, seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and supper. Although they do not take reservations for breakfast or lunch the queue does move surprisingly quickly. However, if you want to guarantee a table for a large number of people then I’d recommend going for dinner.
The menu is split into two – sweet and savoury. I have such a sweet tooth that I always opt for a dish from the sweet side whereas my husband always picks from the savoury menu. There’s also a choice of waffles including gluten-free, vegan & dairy-free options too. If waffles aren’t your thing then there are some other options too including soup and salads. They also do the most incredible milkshakes too.
Let me know in the comments below whether you’d pick a sweet or savoury waffle!
